Although an operating system's default tools are usually underperforming, such is not the case with Safari, the default web browser that comes with Mac OS X. It offers a clean and intuitive user interface and a rich functionality to go with it. The browser works quite fast and its modern design makes it very comfortable. If you are a Mac user, then you already have this browser, so you only need to keep an eye out for updates.

Safari's user interface presents the same tools you would expect to find on other modern web browsers, like an address bar which doubles as an input for web searches, a bookmark bar and, of course, a quick dial page with frequently visited websites. However, the browser comes with its own unique features, like a built-in article reader, which displays articles like in a word processor, making them easier to read.

Another useful feature is the possibility of adding pages to a reading list. It is similar to bookmarking a page, but the reading list items are kept separate, so temporary items, which you want to read later, won't get mixed up with permanent bookmarks. What's more, Safari provides a search function and it allows you to filter the reading list, to display only unread items. The reading list can be displayed in a column, on the left side of the interface, where you can also view and manage your bookmarks, on a separate tab.

Safari provides support for various extensions as well. Most of them can be found on Apple's website and installing them doesn't involve anything more than one click. Installed extensions can be enabled and disabled or uninstalled in the browser's general settings menu, where you can find many other options, for privacy and security settings, appearance and behavior settings tweaks and more.

Pros

The browser provides a comfortable and elegant user interface. It works fast and it comes with many interesting features. It also provides support for extensions.

Cons

There are no functionality gaps or design flaws to address. Surfing the web can be a comfortable and elegant experience, due to Safari's smart design.
